Our Editors Tried Picnic, Curex, & Roman. Here's What They Found

The seasons are changing and although we love the falling leaves and that delicious drop in temperatures, for some of us this is the season of allergies.

When it comes to our allergy medication, we've tried just about everything - the drowsy tablets, the sprays, and even home remedies - but soon we're wheezing and sneezing again. Our editors went looking for more options and found three - Picnic, Curex and Roman.

Picnic Overview:

Picnic is a revolutionary way of treating allergies. This is not a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, their experts help tailor a treatment plan just for you. Start by simply filling out a comprehensive quiz that includes a detailed description of your symptoms, how severe they are, what medications you've tried in the past, and if they worked. Picnic also asks where you reside because location might be the source of your allergies.

Picnic sticks with you through the entire process to help you tackle your allergies, identify which medications may help prevent symptoms, and they'll adjust your plan accordingly.

Picnic treats allergic rhinitis that includes symptoms such as headaches, nasal congestion and dryness, sneezing, and coughing. They carry a broad range of oral antihistamines, intranasal sprays, eye drops, and natural remedies. And they have generic versions of both over-the-counter and prescription allergy medications including Clarinex®, Allegra®, Benadryl Allergy®, Claritin®, Zyrtec®, and Nasonex®. All prescriptions require a virtual doctor consultation and are delivered right to your door.

Once your treatment plan is set, simply subscribe and receive either their 30-day or 90-day supply. If you have any questions about their treatments(when you should take it, how it reacts with food etc), Picnic doctors are always available to answer any question. And you can always make changes to your treatment plan or cancel your subscription anytime.

On top of providing you with the personalized treatment you deserve, Picnic's site is packed full of educational content that can help you get a better understanding of what causes allergies and forms of treatment that can help.

Picnic's prices vary based on your individual plans and start at $5. Plus you can save 20% on your first order. Prescriptions do require a virtual doctor consultation which costs an additional $5. We find that convenience is what makes Picnic truly stand out.

Curex Overview:

Curex features immunotherapy which focuses on the source of your allergies - not just the symptoms. Start your plan with a 1-minute assessment which personalizes your treatment. Once your plan is set, there's a virtual visit with an allergy clinician about your concerns. Then, it's time to test your allergies, either in a lab or at home.

Curex offers two types of immunotherapy. The first is a shot from the doctor that includes allergen extracts created from natural substances. This helps patients build up a tolerance. These cost around $249 per month but vary depending on your insurance. The other option is "Sublingual at Home" which treats allergic rhinitis. These cost about $65 per month and include clinical care.

Some common problematic allergies they address are dogs, cats, dust mites, tree pollens, molds, and fungi. However, it can take 6 months to see any type of relief, and Curex even recommends sticking with it for 3 years to see the maximum benefit. While their physicians are always there to monitor and adjust your treatment accordingly, for us, a more immediate solution like Picnic is a better option considering it wont take half a year to feel relief.

Roman Allergies Overview:

Roman is an allergy medication that's prescribed online and delivered to your doorstep. They understand that allergies can change during each season and offer various treatments to attack different parts of the allergy pathway.

Roman only offers four treatment options, Azelastine Nasal Spray, Fluticasone Propionate Nasal Spray, the antihistamine Levocetirizine, and Montelukast, an oral medication. After completing a free online visit, Roman healthcare professionals will get back to you within 24 hours to personalize your plan. Medications work differently for everyone and should be personalized to see results.

Unlike Picnic, Roman's onboarding didn't ask about our past experience with allergy treatments or preferences which we felt was important given our past unsuccessful experience testing medications on our own.

Their visits generally cost $15 and medication prices depend on dosage and the specific medication chosen for you.

Final Thoughts:

Out of all the different types of allergy medications, our editors found Picnic to be the best. Their personalized treatment plan is the most reasonable price-wise and offers the widest range of medications for a variety of issues. They also offer the most educational content to further help alleviate your worst allergies.

Finally, it's time to stop suffering from allergies and give Picnic a try.
