Our Editors Tried Mack Weldon Sweats: Here’s What Happened

Everyone has their go-to pair of sweats to throw on after a long day of work, because comfort is an important part of unwinding. It seems like women have so many options for loungewear, while men just have old over-sized sweats. We wanted to find out if it was possible for men to have comfy loungewear that is still acceptable to wear outside of the house. We were on the search for a pair of sweats that would pass the test of both comfort and functionality. We read Men's Fitness said you can wear the Mack Weldon sweats anywhere, "We suggest you don't show up to the office in sweats. But if you've ever wanted to try, then attempt it with the Ace Sweatpant. Made for life beyond the 9-to-5, these sweats were designed to be worn everywhere (literally)." Mack Weldon is a premium brand that is reinventing men's basics so we decided to see if they live up to the hype.

We chose two of our editors, Bryan and Rob, who have very different styles, to partake in testing out the Mack Weldon Ace sweatpants. Bryan prefers a looser fit and was hesitant about athleisure wear, but he was game to give them a try, because he'd been looking for some new sweats. Rob sports a more stylish look and has a lot of different types of sweats, but said there's always one aspect of them that are not quite right, from the fit to the design to the feel of the fabric.

We browsed the site with Bryan and Rob and debated over the colors until a couple of pairs were settled on. Mack Weldon offers hassle-free returns, so the guys decided to try two pairs each. Bryan got the "true black" and the "total eclipse blue" which is like a dark navy. He chose the Extra Large (36" waist) because he didn't want them to be too fitted. Rob decided on the "duffle bag green" which resembles an army green, as well as a pair of "gray heather" sweats. He normally wears a Large (34" waist) so he stuck with that size. Shipping was free and was set to arrive that same week.

When the package arrived to the office a few days later, the guys were excited to get out of their slacks and throw on their new sweats. The first thing we all noticed was how soft the fabric was. The sweats are made of French Terry with a slight stretch, and the fabric is micro-sanded, meaning they go through a machine where small pieces of sandpaper rub the fabric to make them extremely soft, smooth and refined without causing pilling. This ensures the softest possible fabric. The pants are cuffed at the bottom around the ankle and tapered giving them a refined, fitted look. Beyond the look and the feel of the fabric, one feature that stood out was the pockets. They have side zipper pockets to hold your essentials like your wallet, phone and keys, as well as a stealth back pocket. Bryan was surprised by how much he liked the fit, since he normally likes looser fitting pants. Both Bryan and Rob agreed that the pants were the softest sweats they'd worn and gave them a more stylish look. Rob said they felt like a pair of sweats for grown-ups and felt that they'd transition well from the couch to the gym, or even to be worn at work.

So, what was our verdict? The Mack Weldon sweatpants encompass all that we were looking for in a good pair of sweats: comfort, style and functionality. They made Bryan and Rob look relaxed, yet put-together. Loungewear is important and Mack Weldon gets that. These are not your typical sweats. They are premium, top-quality pants that truly capture the athleisure aesthetic. With a refined fit and super soft feel, Mack Weldon sweats take lounging to a whole new level, because you should feel comfortable everywhere. Our editors give Mack Weldon two thumbs up.
