Our Editors’ Best & Worst Products For Thicker, Fuller Looking Hair

About one-third of women experience hair loss at some point in their lives.* Causes range from aging and genes, to shifting hormones and symptoms of underlying conditions or health issues. Whatever the case might be – hair loss can be a woman’s biggest nightmare.

The good news is there are tons of products on the market that tackle thinning hair and support hair growth, with some being more effective than others. That’s why our editors did a deep dive and reviewed haircare’s worthiest products for you, from serums to supplements – no more guesswork!

Here are our favorite products for dealing with hair loss and the ones you better skip:

Best: GRO Hair Serum – $48

Vegamour’s GRO Hair Serum is powered by clinically-tested, plant-based ingredients that work in tandem to promote thicker, fuller-looking hair in as soon as 90 days of consistent use. It’s a highly effective vegan serum (made without toxic chemicals!) that increases the appearance of hair density and reduces signs of shedding – no visible residue or greasiness! Just fill the dropper, apply directly to the scalp and massage it in using your fingertips. It’s a leave-in product so you can style your hair afterward as you would normally do.

Worst: Minoxidil Solution – $45.00

Our least favorite product was hers’ Minoxidil Solution. The solution needs to be applied twice a day, directly to your scalp, on the spots where you experience hair loss. Unfortunately, though, we experienced very negative side effects such as stinging, itching, dryness, and flakiness – not for us!

Best: GRO Biotin Gummies – $24

If you’re looking for a supplement rather than a hair product, Vegamour’s GRO Biotin Gummies are for you. They’re 100% vegan and gluten-free and come in a natural strawberry flavor – so delicious! They’re a perfect daily treat containing biotin, folic acid, and vitamins B-5, 6, and 12 to help support your body’s production of keratin and collagen – everything your hair needs for healthy growth.

Bonus Tip: We recommend pairing it with Vegamour’s GRO serum for even better results!

Worst: Women Hair Growth Nutraceutical – $88

Nutrafol’s Hair Growth Supplement for Women is physician-formulated with medical-grade, natural ingredients to target root causes of hair thinning, such as stress, lifestyle, and nutrition. However, we don’t recommend it for different hair-thinning reasons, such as pregnancy or autoimmune hair loss. We also didn’t like taking four pills each day, which is a lot compared to other products. For all that work it can still take 3-6 months to see results, so you really need the patience and the budget to see this treatment through.

Best: GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner Kit – $74

We loved Vegamour’s GRO Revitalizing Shampoo and Conditioner. It left our hair super soft thanks to their use of a microencapsulated vegan b-SILK™ protein. This game-changing ingredient physically bonds to hair follicles and remains attached to strands even after rinsing – it’s the first vegan keratin hair treatment! After using both products for about four months, we noticed increased density and thicker, healthier-looking hair.

Worst: Root Purifier Shampoo and Strand Defender Conditioner – $88

Even though we noticed improved scalp dryness and flakiness, Nutrafol’s shampoo and conditioner left our hair oily on the top and frizzy at the ends. We also had difficulty with detangling – not to mention that it was one of the most expensive hair wash products we’ve tried.

Best: GRO Scalp Detoxifying Serum – $32

To achieve healthy hair, a healthy scalp is vital. The GRO Scalp Detoxifying Serum caught our attention because it’s 100% vegan (like all of their products) and free of sulfates, silicones, parabens, gluten, and artificial fragrance. It’s formulated with clinically-tested botanicals and b-SILK™️ proteins that help repair and maintain scalp health and allow your hair to grow healthily. We could see a visible reduction in dandruff symptoms in as little as three days after initial use.

Worst: Detox Scalp Scrub – $44

Hers’ Detox Scalp Scrub was great, but for $44, it could have been better. We liked the smell of it and noticed an immediate reduction in sebum! But again, it wasn’t any better than the other products we tried, which were a lot cheaper.

Overall, we were big fans of Vegamour’s products and were positively surprised by their results. They’re made with powerful bioactive ingredients that deliver clinically proven results – no harmful toxins or undesirable side effects, just healthier, thicker, and fuller-looking hair – 5 stars from us!
