How I Got Back To Making Home Cooked Meals With HelloFresh

As a mum of two, I've been swamped all year long. With all the kids' after-school activities, homework and my work, the family's eating habits have taken a back seat.

When I'm feeling really lazy - which is most nights, I'd stick a pizza in the oven, whip up a quick pasta or get takeaway. I wanted to get into a routine of making a home-cooked meal every evening, but I had no idea where to start.

Now that the days are getting longer, I don't want to spend my time shopping for ingredients, preparing, and cooking a meal every evening. Then my husband suggested HelloFresh, saying one of his colleagues highly recommended it.

He convinced me to try it for a week since you can cancel your subscription at any time. You can choose between plans that are Vegetarian, Pescatarian, Family Friendly, Quick & Easy, Calorie Smart, Carb Smart, Protein Rich or Everything. They do a plan for 2 or 4 people, 3-5 recipes a week. We went with Everything for 4 people, 5 nights a week, which ended up costing only $9.99 per meal! Then we selected our meals, and with the menu changing every week we'll always have surprising culinary adventures.

Our box arrived at our doorstep right on time and I was super excited to test each recipe.

The ingredients are clearly labeled and all very fresh. I like that HelloFresh makes an effort to be sustainable - even their ice packs are recyclable!

First up was Quick Mexican Pork Tacos with Pickled Onions & Garlic Aioli. I was shocked when I saw that it only takes 25 minutes to cook, but my main concern was whether the kids would enjoy it.

To my delight, it was on the table in 25 minutes! And everyone's plates were clean - even Toby! He's a fussy eater. HelloFresh is officially kid-approved in our house.

As our week went on, I realised how great HelloFresh is. My favourite meal of the week was the Creamy Chicken Penne with Parmesan & Zucchini, but the kids loved the Crumbed Garlic & Herb Chicken with Aussie-Spiced Roast Veggies & Dill-Parsley Mayo.

Unsurprisingly, we kept our HelloFresh subscription. I'm amazed at how much time it saves me - it's been a lifesaver. And a money saver too, considering what we'd spent on takeaway over the last few months! HelloFresh has really helped us reestablish our healthy mealtime routine.

HelloFresh meals are delicious and wholesome, but most of all cooking HelloFresh allows for more quality family time. We sit together at the dining table and catch up on our day. If you're looking for a way to make more home-cooked meals this school season, try HelloFresh.
