How I'm Getting Into New Habits For 2021

& the key to all 3 of them

I like to reflect and see what new habits I want to start in the new year at the end of every year. This year has been a crazy one, and it's fair to say that I've been in a bit of a slump over the last few months. But I want to start the new year fresh, so I'm planning what good habits I want to form to make sure 2021 is a better one.

Here are my top 3 habits I want to form and how I plan to stick with them:

New Habit #1 - Start Cooking More Diverse Recipes

One of my favourite things to do is try out new food. I couldn't go out to eat as much this year, so I ended up surviving on the frozen food aisle and takeout. As you can imagine, this got very repetitive and meal time became boring (not to mention unhealthy).

My friend recommended HelloFresh, a meal kit that delivers pre-portioned ingredients to your doorstep every week. It turns out you get to choose your meals from their packed menu each week, including tons of international cuisines. There are Indian, Korean, Mediterranean, Latin, Mexican, and tons more.

The Ham Chow Mein looked delicious, and I could pause or cancel the subscription at any point, so I decided to try it out, and I'm so glad I did. I've been cooking healthier home-cooked meals, all the while trying new cuisines every week! My favorite so far was the Hawaiian Fried Rice. Mmm.

New Habit #2 - Spend Less Money

Considering I wasn't going out or traveling at all this year, I still spent a surprising amount of money, and a huge chunk of it was on takeout. At first, it was a convenient way to make fewer trips to the grocery store, but it became a part of my routine in the evenings, and my bank account has suffered.

Now that I'm cooking with HelloFresh, I'm saving so much money. I went with the Meat & Veggie plan for 2 people, 4 meals a week. It cost just $9.69 per serving when I signed up(less than half what I was spending on takeout), plus I use my leftovers for lunch the next day! Their meals are always the perfect size, so there's never any food waste.

New Habit #3 - Get Into a Better Weekly Routine

This year has been a lazy year for me. After a few weeks of WFH, I started getting up later, making less effort to exercise, and eating poorly. Now, I've started to get up and go for a walk every day before work, and it's so good to clear my head before getting back to work.

Now that I'm making more home-cooked meals, I have more energy. Every evening after work, I look forward to making my HelloFresh recipe. The ingredients are pre-portioned and come with an easy-to-follow recipe card means the meals only take about 30 minutes since there's barely any prep involved.

HelloFreshhas been a game-changer for me. Not only have I been saving money, but I've been eating more wholesome and international cuisines. Getting ingredients delivered to my door every week is beyond convenient, and I can cut my trips to the grocery store down to once a week.

Every time I sit down to eat a meal I've made from scratch, I feel a sense of accomplishment with a little help from HelloFresh. HelloFresh has helped me form better habits; I'd highly recommend trying it!
